    A USA ESTA (Electronic System For Travel Authorisation) is similar to a visa, but no stamp is affixed in your passport. When the ESTA is issued it is valid for 2 years or until your passport expires and will allow multiple entries into the USA.

    Passport holders from the participating countries of the Visa Waiver Program can visit the United States for a stay of up to 90 days for tourism, business, medical purposes, and recreational studies by applying for an ESTA.

    • You must have an e-Passport to use the Visa Waiver Program. An e-Passport is an enhanced secure passport with an embedded electronic chip. You can readily identify an e-Passport, because it has a unique international symbol on the cover.

    If your USA ESTA is approved you are entitled to travel to the USA under the Visa Waiver Program. An approved ESTA does not guarantee admission to the USA, it will be determined by the officers at the point of entry. If your ESTA is not approved or your purpose of the visit is not covered under ESTA you are not entitled to travel to the USA under the Visa Waiver Program. You may be able to obtain a visa from the USA Consulate.

    Citizens of 41 countries can apply for an online ESTA to USA.

    Requirements for the USA ESTA:

    • Passport copy with at least 6 months’ validity from the date of application;
    • Citizens of Visa Waiver Program countries who have travelled to or been present in Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria or Yemen on or after March 1, 2011.
    • You are required to upload one recent (within 6 months) passport size photograph taken on a white background (face front, no spectacles, no shadows on face or background) in JPG or PNG format during application.
