• Apostille Services for Legalisation

Following the Singapore Government’s accession to the HCCH Convention of 5 October 1961 on 7 November 2023, Singapore is now a Contracting Party to the Convention. As a result, 126 countries accept and recognise Apostille stamps on official public and private documents issued in other Contracting States.

The Singapore Academy of Law (SAL) is Singapore’s designated Competent Authority for the legalisation and apostillation for overseas use of documents issued by organisations registered in Singapore. An Apostille may be affixed to official Singapore public documents as well as notarial certificates for commercial documents issued in Singapore.

    • Governmental documents issued in Singapore such as marriage certificates, birth certificates and educational certificates from local government schools etc:
      • Computer generated documents, e.g. Registrar of Marriage Search, Certificate of Making Decree Nisi Absolute, Adoption Petition, Business Profile from ACRA etc, must be certified by the issuing department first before they are presented to SAL for legalisation (certified true copy).
      • For legalisation of true copies, please present the photocopy together with the original document for verification.
    • Non-Governmental documents issued in Singapore such as documents from foreign institutions, private company documents, educational certificates from private schools and universities etc, first must be referred to a Notary Public in Singapore for notarisation – we can help with these steps – please, enquire during application.
      • Computer generated documents such as invoices, bills of sales, certificates of origin, fumigation certificates, etc first should be certified or seen by any of the four Chambers of Commerce (International, Chinese, Indian and Malay) or the Singapore Manufacturers’ Association. For legalisation of true copies, please present the photocopy together with the original document for verification.
