• Family visit visa to China (Q1-type)

    A family visit visa to China (Q1 type) is issued to those who are family members of Chinese citizens or of foreigners with Chinese permanent residence and intend to go to China for a long-term family reunion, or to those who intend to go to China for the purposes of foster care (intended duration of stay in China exceeding 180 days). “Family members” refers to spouses, parents, sons, daughters, spouses of sons or daughters, brothers, sisters, grandparents, grandsons, granddaughters and parents-in-law..

    Required documents for a family visit visa to China

    • Once you filled in the online form, please, email it to us so we could make an appointment with the Chinese Visa Processing Centre.
    • If you are aged between 14 and 70, you will have to submit fingerprints at the China Visa Application Service Centre unless you have already submitted your biometrics in the last 5 years and have not renewed your passport since. We will provide instructions upon submission.
    • All documents should be printed or photocopied on A4-sized paper.
    • Separate all the application documents for different applicants into individual sets.
    • If either of the applicant’s parents is a Chinese national, they will need to apply directly at the Chinese embassy.

    • Completed, printed out and signed Chinese visa application form. It must be signed by hand (wet signature in blue ink) in 2 places, the first and last pages.
    • Original passport with at least 6 months validity beyond the validity of the visa and with at least two empty pages for stamping the visa.
    • A colour copy of a passport.
    • Copy of a Residence permit for EP, PR, DP and S-Pass holders or Re-entry Permit for PR holders or NRIC for Singaporeans. For a new employment pass with a QR code instead of an expiry date, you must provide a printout of the validity and expiry status which can be obtained with a free SGWorkPass app (available on App Store and Google Play).
    • 1 recent passport-size (48mm x 33mm) photograph in a digital format (for completing the online form) and on paper (for affixing to the printed out form):
      • The applicant is required to present the frontal view to the camera with the entire head and face visible.
      • The facial expression must be neutral with eyes open, mouth closed and ears visible.
      • Eyeglasses are allowed only if the lenses are not tinted and there is no glare, shadows, or frames obscuring the eyes.
      • Hats or other head coverings are only allowed if worn for religious reasons and if they do not obscure any facial features.
      • The background of the photo should be white or close to white with no borders around the edge of the image.
      • The photo should be recent, taken within 6 months.
    • Copy of previous visas to China if they were stamped in a different/old passport.
    • Photocopy of previous Chinese passports or previous Chinese visas (applicable to those who were Chinese citizens and have obtained foreign citizenship):
      • If you are applying for a Chinese visa for the first time, you should provide the last Chinese passport held and a photocopy of its data page.
      • Copy of each of your recent Chinese visas and a front page of the passport.
      • If you have obtained Chinese visas before and are applying for a Chinese visa with a renewed foreign passport that does not contain any Chinese visa, you should present the photocopy of the previous passport’s data page and the photo page if it is separate, as well as the previous Chinese visa page (if your name on the current passport differs from that on the previous one, you must provide an official document of name change).
    • For family reunion, the following documents are required:
      • (1) An invitation letter issued by a Chinese citizen or a foreigner with a Chinese permanent residence permit who lives in China. The invitation letter should contain:
        • Information on the applicant (full name, gender, date of birth, etc.)
        • Information on the visit (purpose of visit, intended arrival date, place(s) of intended residence, intended duration of residence, relations between the applicant and the inviting individual, financial source for expenditures)
        • Information on the inviting individual (name, contact telephone number, address, official stamp, the signature of the legal representative or the inviting individual, etc.)
      • (2) Photocopy of Chinese ID of the inviting individual or foreign passport and permanent residence permit.
      • (3) Original and photocopy of certification (marriage certificate, birth certificate, certification of kinship issued by the Public Security Bureau or notarized certification of kinship) showing the relationship of family members between applicant and inviting individual. “Family members” refers to spouses, parents, sons, daughters, spouses of sons or daughters, brothers, sisters, grandparents, grandsons, granddaughters, and parents-in-law.
    • For foster care, the following documents are required:
      • (1) Foster entrustment notarization issued by Chinese Embassies/Consulates General in foreign countries or Foster Care Power of Attorney notarized and authenticated in the country of residence or in China.
      • (2) Original and photocopy of the consignor’s passport(s), as well as the original and photocopy of certification (marriage certificate, birth certificate, certification of kinship issued by Public Security Bureau or notarized certification of kinship) showing the relationship between parents and children.
      • (3) A letter of consent on foster care issued by the trustee living in China who has agreed to provide foster care services and a photocopy of the ID of the trustee.
      • (4) A photocopy of the certificate indicating the permanent residence status abroad of the parent(s) when the child was born, provided that either or both parents of the child are Chinese citizens.
    • Completed and signed Global Singapore visa order form.

    • Holders of Q1 visa shall, within 30 days from the date of their entry, apply to the exit/entry administrations of public security organs under local people’s governments at or above the county level in the proposed places of residence for foreigners’ residence permits.

      Processing time for a tourist visa to China

      Please note that at the moment there is an additional at least 20 days lead time for us to get an appointment at the processing centre.

      • Regular service at the Chinese Consulate is 5-7 working days once we submit the documents to the processing centre.
      • Express service at the Chinese Consulate is 4-5 working days once we submit the documents to the processing centre.

      Please add one more day in order for us to check all your paperwork.

      • Please note, once your application is submitted for normal service, it will not be possible to change processing into the express or urgent service or vice versa.
