• Study, exchange visa to China (F-type)

    A study, exchange visa to China (F-type) is granted for the purpose of (1) academic exchanges; (2) cultural exchanges (e.g. non-profit performance); (3) religious exchanges; (4) NGO activities;(5) volunteering (90 days or less); (6) foreign expert with pre-approved letters of invitation; (7) geographic surveying and mapping activities. Usually, a visa is issued for a period of 3 months. From September 2, 2024 to December 31, 2025, applicants for short term visas (staying for less than 180 days) for one or two entries will be exempted from fingerprints collection.

    Application procedure for an exchange visa to China

    Step 1

    • Complete the online Chinese visa application form.
      • All applicants are required to fill the online application form and upload all necessary documents.
      • The online application form can be completed in our office with the professional assistance of our consultant; this would help to avoid any mistakes and to ensure smooth visa processing. An additional surcharge of 50 SGD will apply in this case.
    • Documents required for online submission:.
      • Passport information page. The original passport must have at least 6 months validity remaining after the intended visa expires and at least 2 blank pages for visa stamps. You will need to upload your passport bio-page and 2 blank pages in your passport.
      • Residence / re-entry permit / NRIC. Copy of a Residence permit for EP, PR, DP and S-Pass holders or Re-entry Permit for PR holders or NRIC for Singaporeans. For a new employment pass with a QR code instead of an expiry date, you must provide a printout of the validity and expiry status which can be obtained with a free SGWorkPass app (available on App Store and Google Play).
      • Photograph. 1 recent passport-size (48mm x 33mm) photograph in a digital format (for completing the online form) and 1 hard copy (for affixing to the printed-out form). The photo must meet the following criteria:
        • The applicant is required to present the frontal view to the camera with the entire head and face visible.
        • The facial expression must be neutral with eyes open, mouth closed and ears visible.
        • Eyeglasses are allowed only if the lenses are not tinted and there is no glare, shadows, or frames obscuring the eyes.
        • Hats or other head coverings are only allowed if worn for religious reasons and if they do not obscure any facial features.
        • The background of the photo should be white or close to white with no borders around the edge of the image.
        • You cannot wear a white top; the top must have sleeves.
        • The photo should be recent, taken within 6 months.
      • Copy of previous visas to China if they were stamped in a different/old passport.
      • Official document showing name change if the passport with previous Chinese visas was issued under a different name.
      • Foreign passport holders who were born in China (inclusive of Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Macao) or were once Chinese citizens, have to provide one of the following documents:
        • Crossed-out Chinese passport (original and a photocopy of the front page).
        • Copy of each of your recent Chinese visas and a front page of the passport.
        • Copy of a birth certificate and a notarisation.
        • Copy of a crossed-out identity card or a registered residence booklet.
        • For applicants, who are former Chinese citizens and are applying for a Chinese visa for the first time, please provide the crossed-out Chinese passport (original and a photocopy of the front page).
      • Invitation letter issued by a relevant entity or individual in China. The invitation letter should contain:
        • Information on the applicant ( full name, gender, date of birth, etc.).
        • Information on the planned visit (purpose of visit, arrival and departure dates, place(s) to be visited, relations between the applicant and the inviting entity or individual, financial source for expenditures).
        • Information on the inviting entity or individual (name, contact telephone number, address, official stamp, signature of the legal representative or the inviting individual).

    Step 2

    • Check the assessment result of your application. Applicants can find the assessment result following the “Track My Application” link once submitting the application.
    • If the status shows “Approved”, and you have received a confirmation email, then you can submit documents with the printed confirmation to us.
    • When submitting documents, please bring the following:
      • Original passport.
      • Printed Application Form, signed on the first and last pages.
      • Confirmation letter.
      • Completed and signed Global Singapore visa order form.

    • Should you require to print any of the required documents in our office, please note that an additional charge will be applied.

      Processing time for an exchange visa to China

      • Regular service at the Chinese Consulate is 5-7 working days once we submit the documents to the processing centre.
      • Express service at the Chinese Consulate is 4-5 working days once we submit the documents to the processing centre.

      Please add one more day in order for us to check all your paperwork.

      • Please note, once your application is submitted for normal service, it will not be possible to change processing into the express or urgent service or vice versa.
