• Tourist visa to Japan

    A tourist visa to Japan is granted to passengers travelling to Japan for a short-term stay for the purpose of tourism (sightseeing, visiting friends and relatives, leisure) or medical check-up and medical treatment.

    A tourist visa can be issued as a single-entry (3 months validity) or a multiple-entry visa. Only applicants from India, Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam, China, Russia, Ukraine, Mongolia, and Saudi Arabia are eligible to apply for a multiple-entry visa. For applicants from other countries, a multiple-entry visa is not applicable, unless it is for business purposes and it is subject to the Embassy’s approval

    Processing time update

    Due to delays in processing at the Japanese Embassy, we can only accept applications if your travel date is at least 4 weeks from your appointment date. Please ensure that you will be able to leave your passport with us for about 1 month during processing.

    Required documents for a tourist visa to Japan

    Main documents:

    • Visa application form. The completed Japanese visa application form must be printed and signed by hand (blue ink). Refer to the Japanese visa application guide on how to complete the form in accordance with the requirements of the Embassy of Japan.
    • Photograph. 1 recent passport-size colour photograph (3.5 cm x 4.5 cm) on a white background – can be arranged in our office. The top must have sleeves, no white tops allowed.
    • Passport. The original passport must have at least 6 months of validity remaining after the intended visa expires and at least 2 blank pages for visa stamps.
    • A copy of Singapore Residence Permit. For EP, PR, DP and S-Pass holders, you must provide a printout of the validity and expiry status (scanned within last 5 days) which can be obtained with a free SGWorkPass app (available on App Store and Google Play) if your employment pass have a QR Code instead of an expiry date. For PR holders, Re-entry Permit is required.
    • Copy of inbound and outbound tickets to Japan (that includes the airline 6-letter booking reference) showing that the applicant is departing from and terminating in Singapore. If you are applying for a double-entry visa, you will need to submit a copy of the flight itinerary showing 2 round-trip trips to Japan within the next 6 months.
    • Employment letter. An employment letter from the applicant’s employer in Singapore issued within the last 1 month from the date of submission. Refer to the example of a company letter. Or a business profile from ACRA issued within the last 3 months.
    • Bank statements showing the transactions for the last 2 months. The bank statements must have all pages included. The minimum amount required for a visa application is 3,000 SGD. OR a certificate of income or tax payment issued by IRAS (Notice of Assessment).
    • A daily itinerary in Japan. Please, refer to the Japanese itinerary example on how to complete the form in accordance with requirements of the Embassy of Japan.
    • For the multiple-entry visa:
    • 2 x POAs.
    • 2 x authorisation letters.
    • Global Singapore visa order form. Completed and signed Global Singapore visa order form.
    • Document checklist.

    Supporting documents:

    If an applicant is a retiree, unemployed, homemaker, student or minor, the following documents have to be submitted:

    • Letter of sponsorship.
    • Proof of relationship (copy of a marriage/birth certificate).
    • Sponsor’s passport copy.
    • A copy of Singapore Residence Permit. For EP, PR, DP and S-Pass holders, you must provide a printout of the validity and expiry status (scanned within last 5 days) which can be obtained with a free SGWorkPass app (available on App Store and Google Play) if your employment pass have a QR Code instead of an expiry date. For PR holders, Re-entry Permit is required.
    • Bank statements showing the transactions for the last 2 months with all pages included. The minimum balance required per sponsored visa application is 3,000 SGD. OR an official tax bill issued by IRAS (Notice of Assessment).

      Processing time for a tourist visa to Japan

      • Typically, visa processing takes approximately 7-8 working days after the submission of documents to the Consulate. However, in some cases where referral to a government office is necessary, the processing time may extend up to 1 or 2 months. Hence, we recommend planning your trip well in in advance.

      • Urgent or express service is not available with the Consulate of Japan.
