• The Asia-Pacific region continues to lead the global aviation recovery, with airline passenger demand surging by 22.6% in June 2024 compared to the same period last year, according to the International Air Transport Association (IATA). This impressive growth highlights the region’s strong rebound as the world enters the peak Northern summer travel season.

Capacity in the Asia-Pacific also increased by 22.9% year-on-year, with a load factor of 83.0%, reflecting the high demand for air travel in the region. The Africa-Asia route emerged as the fastest-growing regional pair, with a remarkable 38.1% increase in demand.

Globally, total passenger demand rose by 9.1% year-on-year, with international demand up by 12.3%. The overall load factor reached a robust 85.0%, underscoring the aviation industry’s strong performance as it continues to connect people across the globe.

Willie Walsh, IATA’s Director General, emphasized the importance of efficiency in operations to maintain high load factors and ensure timely travel experiences for passengers, especially during major global events like the Paris Olympic Games.

Note:  IATA (International Air Transport Association) represents some 330 airlines comprising over 80% of global air traffic.
