• In response to the growing trend of remote work, Taiwan has announced plans to issue digital nomad visas valid for up to six months. This initiative, announced by National Development Council (NDC) Minister Paul Liu, aims to enhance the country’s talent outreach and boost its economy. Liu highlighted that countries like South Korea, Japan, and Thailand already have similar policies, making it crucial for Taiwan to compete in attracting foreign talent.

Currently, Taiwan’s digital nomad visa allows a three-month stay, but the government intends to extend it to six months without needing legislative changes. The NDC’s goal is to retain ten percent of these digital nomads to bolster domestic tourism and economic growth. Furthermore, Taiwan aims to attract 120,000 international talents by 2028, including professionals, students, and digital nomads. The government will also submit amendments to ease permanent residency restrictions for top-tier foreign talent, similar to Japan’s global elite visa program.
